I am a retired, disabled Vietnam Era veteran; a Life Coach specializing in EFT and Ho’oponopono, helping active-duty military, veterans, and their families cope with trauma or PTSD resulting from military service. I’ve found that veterans will likely to seek help when they can work with another veteran, someone who gets them, someone they can trust.
I served 21 years in the U.S. Submarine Force. I’m very proud that I had a role in winning the Cold War. The thing I miss the most is the camaraderie and esprit de corps of a unique brotherhood. Knowing I always had someone to count on, anywhere, anytime. I had their backs, they had mine. It’s something you had to experience in order to appreciate and understand.
We had a mission to accomplish. We did it with duty and honor. Unfortunately, “stuff” happens with unforeseen consequences, outside of our control.
In my case, I lost hearing in my left ear, replaced by tinnitus, a constant high-pitched buzzing that never goes away. Some days are okay, other days it drives me nuts. I want to pull my hair out. I still have insomnia from years of screwed up sleep patterns and living in a constant state of heightened awareness, waking up at the slightest noise. Reflecting back, there were family conflicts, isolation, and trust issues after coming home from deployment. Not being able to talk about where I went or what I did. Always being suspicious when someone asked questions about what I did. Were they trying to get intel about submarine operations? Operational security was a real concern during the Cold War. Lastly, there was the anger and hostility towards Vietnam Era veterans. Times were different then. Thankfully, things are better now.
Your issues may be similar or even worse than mine, especially if you saw combat. My brother was a Marine. Over the years, he’s shared many traumatic events; things he had to do, experienced, or witnessed. He used alcohol and drugs to deal with intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and flashbacks. He’s grateful for having a family member who has been there, done that, and understands. A frequent comment is, “Dude, they just don’t get it. I can’t put this on them.”
I learned to live with my issues. I sucked it up and got on with life, trying some self-help methods with limited success. Things didn’t improve though. Alcohol became an issue. My wake-up call was getting a letter in the mail that a traveling revival was in town and their resident drunk had passed away and they were looking for a replacement. They asked around and my name kept coming up. Would I like to join them? A true story. My best friend had sent the letter because he was concerned for my well-being. I wasn’t listening to suggestions to seek help so he sent the letter. This was the point I took 100% responsibility for my life and decided to look for help.
Long story short, what I found was the movie, The Secret. It introduced me to the Law of Attraction and Jack Canfield’s (Chicken Soup of the Soul co-author) Success Principles which introduced me to EFT, Ho’oponopono, and the power of energy psychology. Albeit unconventional, they changed my life.
The empirical results were almost unbelievable. They saved my life and my sanity. I’m glad to see science validating what others have known for years.
I used the methods personally and professionally for the next 20 years as a Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt, Quality Manager, Quality Director, and Business Excellence Manager in the automotive manufacturing sector. I was the “show me the data” person. It was quite the challenge to introduce and apply them in a business environment. The results spoke for themselves, enhancing and improving employee performance and company results in unique, tangible and intangible ways. The secret was energy psychology.
When I was downsized due to COVID-19, I retired and founded BLV26CD, Believe to Succeed. I’m a trained and accredited Clinical EFT Practitioner, EFT Level 1 & 2 Practitioner, Ho’oponopono Practitioner, Law of Attraction Practitioner, Canfield Success Principles Trainer, and Enhanced Breakthrough Coaching Practitioner.
Sharing these techniques is my way of paying it forward, staying involved, and supporting those who served in and supported the armed forces. My vision is to have all military personnel and their families try EFT and Ho’oponopono, experience the benefits then use them daily for stress relief, self-care, and emotional regulation.
When you find yourself in need of someone to talk to, unsure of what to do or where to turn, I’m here to help you figure things out, deal with your pain and suffering then find a path forward.
